Welcome to Strafford
Elementary!
The elementary school (grades
1-4) has a population of 477 students and 33
teachers. Our class sizes range from 17-22 students per class.
Our Board of Education has made low student-teacher ratio a
priority for several years. The grade level teachers
have a common planning time that allows collaboration and
planning within the grade level and with the special education
teachers.
Our elementary offers classes for
the students with special needs including learning
disabilities, speech and language disorders, and gifted.
Our library is updated annually
and offers a wide variety of selections for the students.
Adjacent to the library is a computer lab with 18 computers.
The lab is fully utilized by classes’ everyday. Our elementary
students read over 45,000 books last year through the
Accelerated Reading program and 12 classrooms were awarded
Model Classroom which allowed our school to be recognized as a
Model School through the Reading Renaissance Program. At this
time there are only 3 elementary schools in Missouri that
qualify for this award.
The Accelerated Math program is
being implemented in all classrooms. This supplemental program
allows the students to progress at their own rate after being
individually tested and placed at the correct level according
to the objectives they have mastered. The elementary school
also provides Spanish classes for students K-4 grade. It
is taught in rotation with art, P.E. and music.
The extra-curricular activities
in the elementary include: Mighty Mites, Boys Club Basketball,
Boy Scouts, Daisies, 4-H, Book Club, Science Club, Honor
Choir, Homework Club, Garden Club, Character Club, Kids on
Stage, Activity Zone, Technology Club, Cheerleading Camp,
Little League ball, and Summer School.
