New Special Education Director/Dr. April Phillips

April Phillips

Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Dr. April Phillips, our new Special Education Director. Dr. Phillips comes to us from the Ozark School District.

Dr. Phillips will take over for Mrs. Dawnielle Baker, who has accepted a job with the Nixa School District. Mrs. Baker has served our district for 8 years and will be greatly missed. Thank you to Mrs. Baker for her service to our staff and students and we wish her the best of luck!

We want to share some information about Dr. Phillips so that our community can get to know her better! She received her BS degree in 2006 from Missouri State University, her MS degree in 2012 and her Educational Doctorate degree in 2021, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Phillips began her education career teaching preschool and then transitioned to special education while at the Kirbyville School District. Since then, she has taught special education at all grade levels, been a Process Coordinator and a Special Education Director. Dr. Phillips has been the Process Coordinator at Ozark South Elementary for the past 5 years.

Dr. Phillips and her family have a long history of living in the Ozarks. She is married to Robert and they have two sons, Jacob and Andrew. Robert is a Medical Entomologist in the Army Reserves and the owner of Royal Diamond Detailing LLC. Jacob is an Air Force veteran and a city planner for the City of Branson. He is engaged to Harley and they have two children. Andrew is an archaeologist with Environmental Solutions & Innovations and is married to Tyler.

Dr. Phillips shared this statement with us about her future as a Strafford Indian, “I have been able to help students and their families with many different ability levels. I am looking forward to helping the students and their families in the Strafford R-VI School District make progress, find resources, and become productive citizens in the area.”

Welcome to Strafford, Dr. Phillips!
