Retiree Spotlight for Melody Young

Melody Young Retirement

We would like to celebrate the retirement of one of our valued high school teachers, Melody Young! Ms. Young retires with a total of 33 years of teaching experience, 16 of which she taught social studies to our SHS students. We appreciate you and wish you the best in your retirement!

When asked what she plans to enjoy during her retirement, she replied with:

"With a bit of luck, I will be able to embrace the many changes brought on by my retirement.

Things I am looking forward to:

  • Having fewer sleepless nights worrying about students. I will always want to know how each student is doing.

  • Not getting up so early to make sure everything is ready for the school day.

  • Not having to decide what “professional” clothes to wear with my white socks.

  • Spending more time with my animals, gardening, and general communing with nature.

  • Reading late into the night.

  • Keeping my house cleaner.

  • Genealogy research.

  • Completing courses about stuff I want to know.

Things that will be very different:

  • Snow day announcements!

  • Not using my pin collection to evaluate my daily mood or to reflect upon student or political actions.

  • Not buying so many Strafford t-shirts.

  • Lack of daily contact with young people and my peers."
